What is a Golden Dachshund?

Trupanion

The Golden Dachshund is a cross between America’s favorite dog breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Dachshund. As a result, this hybrid inherits many of the parents’ best qualities. The Golden Dachshund is a small to medium-sized dog, weighing between 30 and 60 pounds.

They are also relatively long-lived, lasting 10 to 14 years. Golden Doxes are faithful, loving companions with children and other pets. They are also intelligent and quick to learn tricks.

These pups are outgoing and have lots of energy, but they are also prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long. They need moderate daily exercise, such as a long walk or play session in the yard.

Like all hybrids, the Golden Dachshund can inherit any combination of traits from its parents. However, they typically have a short, smooth coat that is golden in color and floppy ears. They also tend to have the long bodies of Dachshunds with the Golden Retriever’s friendly face.

Golden Dachshunds are sometimes confused with English Cream Dachshunds. These dachshunds are similar in color to Golden Dachshunds. English cream-colored dachshunds are not very common which is why some mistakenly call them golden dachshunds.

What are Golden Dachshunds like?

Golden Dachshunds also known as Golden Doxes are also known for being intelligent and quick learners, making them easy to train. In terms of appearance, they typically have the coat of a Golden Retriever with the short-legged body of a Dachshund.

Golden Dachshunds are the perfect companion for those looking for a small to medium-sized dog that is loving, intelligent, and easy to train. In addition, their small size means they can live happily in an apartment or condo.

Friendly Nature

Golden Dachshunds are true people lovers; they love cuddles and just being around their human family. They are good around children, making them ideal house pets. However, their friendly nature does not make them perfect guard dogs. Golden Dachshunds are more likely to welcome strangers than scare them off.

Good With Dogs, Not With Other Pets

Golden Dachshunds get along well with other dogs, but they are not fond of other pets such as rabbits or cats. The Dachshund in them tends to look at smaller animals as prey. As a result, it’s important to socialize your Golden Dachshunds early on if you wish to keep other pets in the household.

Barks Only When Necessary

Golden Dachshunds are not nuisance barkers who only bark when they sense something is wrong. This is yet another plus if you’re looking for a pet to share your living space with! All in all, the Golden Dachshund is an ideal candidate for a family pet.

Care and Training for Your Golden Dachshund

Golden Dachshunds are relatively easy to care for. They only need to be brushed once or twice a week and bathed as required. Their ears should be checked regularly for infections and their nails should be trimmed monthly. It is also important to keep their teeth clean by brushing them daily or using dental wipes or chews specifically designed for dogs.

When it comes to training your Golden Dachshunds, you will be happy to know that they are considered one of the easiest dog breeds to train! This is because they are so intelligent and eager to please their owners. However, as with all dogs, it is important to start training early and be consistent with your commands.
